Wii Fit Used in Rehab Settings

Recovering from an illness can be challenging having to relearn basic motor skills, movement, walking, anything that involves active daily living activities, i.e. dressing, bathing, eating, brushing teeth, combing your hair, and toileting. To be functional independent many times people have to work many hours to regain what they have lost. Usually a patient receives several hours of therapy a day to help reach their goals.

The Nintendo Wii can be utilized in nursing homes or rehabilitation centers in a fun and relaxing way. Some people are unable to use their legs but can use their arms to play the Nintendo Wii Fit games to help assist with using both extremities.

The Wii can help assist therapist's patients to work on many skills in a social and relaxing environment. The Wii can be utilized in a group or individual settings. To increase upper extremity movements, patients can engage in tennis, boxing, bowling, fishing, baseball and others games. By using the Wii this will enforce what they have learned in therapy. This will increase range of motion flexibility and strength. Also the Wii Balance board can be used for losing weight and improving your standing balance and upper body strength through stretching, aerobic movements, yoga, stamina, through game playing. Even the driving games can help with hand and eye coordination and reflexes. This may improve your social interaction and hand and eye coordination. Even the Wii Guitar Hero game can be played standing or sitting which will improve fine motor skills, posture and balance.

Get fit with many activities and exercises, including strength training, aerobics, and yoga and balance games using the Nintendo Wii. The game balance board can be used to get in shape and improve your balance. Exercise workouts may decrease your weight, and increase your cardio stamina as you work your way through a variety of challenges. Check your Body Mass Index (BMI), see your Wii Fit Age and keep tabs on your daily progress towards a more fit for you.

The positive thing about the Nintendo Wii people want to continue to engage in these games to help their overall mobility, flexibility and strength.

Wii Sports Reviewed

As most Wii console packages come standard with the Wii Sports package I thought it would be a good idea to review Wii Sports.

Wii sports comes with five sports.

* Baseball

* Bowling

* Golf

* Tennis

* Boxing

You can play all but the boxing with the controller that comes out of the standard package. But to play the boxing game, you will need the nunchuck. At least two controllers and nunchucks are ideal as this game is best in a group.

Baseball:

Apart from the Mii's having no legs the game is graphically quite nice. The game chooses your Mii's as players first so you will see your own names coming up on the team roster first. It you don't know what a "Mii" is, you can generate them in the Mii channel so keep all the stats for yourself, family and guests. I have one for each family member and the Mii looks similar (i.e. the kid's Mii's are shorter, slimmer, etc). The pitching in baseball is easy. Just hold the holder in your hand (cord attached to wrist for safety) and swing forward and downward - fast for a fast pitch, slow for a slow pitch. Pushing no button gives a straight fast ball, the "A" button a screw ball and "B" for a curve ball and "A" and "B" for a splitter (dropping ball).

Batting is even simpler - just swing the controller like you would a baseball bat. Timing is everything if you want a home run.

Unfortunately you can no longer steal bases as in the old Nintendo favorites, this and the fact the game is only 3 innings long are my only criticisms.

Bowling:

Ten pin bowling. Swing an underarm and hit the "B" button to release. My secret - hit the "B" at the very last moment - the ball will hit down and stay on track. This works until you improve to "PRO" level in which case you will notice the ball spins off to the side more. You can make the ball spin by moving your wrist while swinging.

I'm a much better bowler online than in real life getting scores of over two hundred. However the game is very realistic with bowling alley sounds, pins dropping and more.

Golf:

Like the real game, Wii Sports golf requires patience, timing and the right application of force. Up to a nine hole golf course with ever more difficult and challenging holes. The best bet is to be conservative in your shot selection and power it you want any hope of reaching a hole in par. Its also import in Wii Sports Golf to stay on the fairway as you have a significant penalty in power if you land on the rough.

Tennis:

This is the only game that is disappointing. Wii Sports Tennis is lacking the necessary control in the ability to slam and directing the ball it a matter of very fine timing. Also running the "Mii" over the court is difficult and slow, meaning you often are in the wrong place to even get close to hitting the ball. The two player game isn't too bad if you play with someone else on your team as you are able to cover the court better making up for the lack of movement in the Mii's.

Boxing:

Wii Fit Sports should come with a medical warning - see you doctor before you play, especially with the boxing because you will end up huffing and puffing. This is the most difficult to get to pro rating with the boxers you face getting increasing better. You will have to learn to dodge, weave and time your punch combinations. Its sometimes difficult to get the Mii to box as quick as you want, or in the place you want. I find making a side body shot particularly difficult. Boxers normally get back up after a knock down. Only a really good upper head shot combo while they are on the way down will keep them down.

Wii Sports also comes with a fitness and training option to test your reflexes, timing and power.

Its a great package to come standard with the Wii.

EQ2 Nektropos Castle - Tribulation Doll Quest

So I am finally confident enough with my solo runs of this part of the zone that I decided to write up a small essay about it and let others reap the same rewards that I have been. Nektropos Castle: Tribulation (also known as "Nek 3") is a high level dungeon located in Nektulous Forest. Upon entering the zone through to the doll quest (Cleaning Melanie's Room) room most of the mobs range from level 68 through 70. This means that if you have a level 80 character you will only need to deal with a few groups of green heroic 70s. Before we continue let me state that not all classes may be able to handle this instance solo. I have an 80 conjuror and brigand, both of which are able to beat this instance solo. Therefore I believe I can safely say that necromancers, swashbucklers, bruisers, and monks can safely conquer this instance. Other mages like the coercer, illusionist, wizard and warlock (with some good skill) should be able to do the same. Well geared and skilled plate tanks, as well, should possibly be able to succeed in this mission.

My conjuror has 140AAs and decent gear. I have found that it really does not matter what AAs I have specced on my conjuror. He however usually eats one death on this mission. My brigand has 135AAs and is specced with Defending and Tactics among other things for the Safehouse ability. He also has gone down the intelligence line to get the Feign Death ability.

Now then, let us begin with my conjuror. Break out the earth pet and buff him up. Head straight through the clickable wall and continue until you bump your nose in the wall ahead. Ignore the ghost that beckons you. Turn left and then turn immediately right. Take two steps forward and then two steps back (Like that Paula Abdul song). This will spawn the first group of mobs. The mobs are two double ups and one triple up. Root the triple up and pull the easier ones back to you. Proceed to nuke them into oblivion and then turn to the triple up. Keep it rooted longer if you need to heal up your pet or regain some power. These mobs must be killed in order to proceed passed them through the small clickable door.

Head through the door and turn left and then right. This will lead you to a wine cellar. On the other side of the room is a clickable wall that will take you upstairs. In this room there are proximity spawning poltergeists but they are level 68 or 69 so a level 80 character will not get any agro. At the top of the stairs there are two doors. Put up invisibility and open the doors and head immediately to the left. After a few seconds of entering the room a group of three triple up mobs will spawn that do see invisibility. You want to position yourself in the corner of the room behind the bed. There usually is a single triple up mob that will not see invisibility on or near the bed (it's a pillow). Pull this mob to you and kill it. Now, as before you will want to root one of the mobs and pull the other two back to your pet to kill. These mobs are pretty tough even for being 10 levels below you. They do have a small range area effect but that should not pose too much of a problem. You will need to keep good care of your pet during this fight and make sure not to pull too much agro yourself, and all the while keeping the third mob rooted. Technically these mobs do not need to be killed but it is best that you clear them because if you die later you will have to run through this room again and they will not be happy to see you.

After clearing the room, head out the doors into a small hallway. At the end of the hallway is a trap. Unless you are a scout class you will eat this trap. Don't worry, it doesn't taste too bad. Scouts can see a small rock on the floor and temporarily disarm the trap. After the trap you will take a right and head along the hallway. Pass the first door on your right and head to the next door on your right. This is another small hallway leading up to the door. There is another trap awaiting you before you go through the door. You will be able to open the door before getting squashed by the trap and target the two linked heroic mobs in there. Do so, and then pet pull them back into the hallway for a fairly easy kill. After this, head into the room and get crushed by the one ton stone trap.

In the room you will see a fireplace with a conspicuously burning fire... hmm...
If you right click the fire you will see an option to "take the key". After you take the key three triple up heroics will spawn. Some of the time two heroics and a named will spawn. Buff your pet FULLY before taking the key. These mobs are casters and will stun the heck out of the pet and I believe can also heal. If the heroics do not heal, then the named surely does. I have not been able to survive this encounter when the named spawns with the other mobs. At any rate you will have the key after this fight or death. If you survive you may leave the room and go to the main hall again and then turn right. Follow the hall for a few meters and take the first door you see on the left. This door leads to the doll quest room.

The quest giver is a ghost sitting in the middle of the room surrounded by 25 billy dolls. When you talk to her she will be crying because her sister scattered all her dolls and she must clean them up. Her sister also put many fake dolls in the fray along with her real dolls. If you take the quest you will need to pick up five dolls and place them on her bed. If you pick up any of the fake dolls, about five or six billy dolls will turn into level 70 triple up heroic mobs and attack you. To add insult to injury, (and this does hurt) you will fail the quest. Also this quest is on a three minute timer to complete but that should be more than enough time. The 25 dolls are split into five somewhat noticeable groups of five. Once the quest starts most of the dolls throughout the course of a few seconds will move slightly whether it be nodding their head or partly standing up for a split seconds. These dolls are the trap dolls that will kill you if you pick them up. The safe dolls are the ones that will not move at all. Once you pick up the five safe dolls and put them on her bed you will complete the quest and be able to open the toy chest in the corner of her room for a reward.

DO I NEED EXTRA CABLES OR AN INTERNET CONNECTION?

The great thing about the PSP is that you can connect your PSP (up to 16, game depending) to another PSP wirelessly without the need of an internet connection. So gone are the days that you had to carry an extra cable to connect two consoles.

HOW DO I SETUP MY PSP FOR Wi-Fi ACCESS?

Flick the switch of the WLAN on the top side of the PSP Slim, or on the left if you have an older PSP model. That's it easy as one, two, three.

WHAT IS THE RANGE OF PSP Wi-Fi?

The rang is up to 150 feet, but I would recommend as close by as you can, because the further away the weaker the signal.
